| hello -
i have a question about the data link layer.
when a packet is being send to ethenet network card with ip protocol -
what will be the encapsulation in the data link layer.
as i understand there could be two options : ethenet II or ethernet 802.2 snap.
what is the default encapsulation ?
can i determine what would be the encapsulation ?
is it possible that one computer will send a frame that is encapsulate with etnernet II, and the other computer
will "think" that it is ethenet 802.2 snap ?
i have in my company a comnication problem with two machines ?
we asked for help from expert - and he said to us that
when the machines making synchronies with each other -
one machine is sending ethernet II frame, while the other
answer it with 802.2 snap frame, and that why they can't
communicate .
in which level i conigure the ethenet encapsulation ?
can i do it at all ?
that it
-Thanks- | |

| I think that you are running a network of Novell. and you have a problem of incorrect frame types. You should configure the same frame type i.e ethernet II ir 802.2 on both machines or on the whole network. | |

| im working with tcp-ip ,
my question is dealing with tcp-ip encapsulation and not
novell encapsulation .
my question is how can i change encapsulation in tcp-ip
there are two kinds of ethernet encapsulation in tcp-ip
as much i know
1. ethernet II
2. ethernet 802.2 snap
how can i choose in which protocol, the packet will be
encapsulate to frame (802.2, or ethernet II)
can i configure the encapsulation of the data link layer
in tcp-ip at all ?
what is the default encapsulation of tcp-ip packet
(what kind of frame it become - 802.2,ethernet II) ?
who is responsible for this tcp-ip encapsulation ?
thanks for your passion . | |
