I'm unsure of the answer you are looking for, but a router simulation is always a good way to get experience for a job. If your asking for the value of the sims on the exam, they are about 310 points a pop, but thats if your lucky! Values always change with Cisco Systems. If I can be of help, drop me a line.

Thanks pcpalct for your reply.

Actually I asked that question because you know guys that most of us who work on CCNA have not real on job experience & use sims to be ready for the exam.

Now when some one of us get a job or try to get a job did the Sims he workred on give him the necessary experience to start an entry level job on cisco routers or let us say give him the confidence to work on routers.

You know guys that not all of us can purchase a router to work on, and if some one try to find an entry level job to get exp he will need exp to get that job. oh, that is closed circle. So can Sims be a solution for that?

Sims are great if you can't get hold of the real thing. Fortunately, I have access to a Cisco 2600 at work, but aside from logging in and peeking around the NOS, I wouldn't dare experiment with it because it supports a network with 90 workstations. That's where Todd Lammle's CCNA Gold Edition comes in. I have it installed on my laptop and I can do anything I want without having to worry about bringing down a network. I am almost ready to take the CCNA and having a Sim has helped me a great deal.

If you don't have a couple routers that you can experiment with, I recommend getting a Sim.

Sims are great. However, a real router is more fun. I have 2 and you can do alot more at home

Thanks Guys for your reply.

I think it is enough for me now to work on simulator till I get a chance to work on real router.

Hi. The problem with sims is they often don`t fully function as the device normally would. For example if there is an exercise designed for you to practice setting passwords, You can bet that all password related commands will cause the sim to function as a router would but don`t be suprised to find that all the other commands you have learned do not work at that particular point. I found the boson router sim from www.boson.com quite useful, before I got my hands on some real kit.

This is my first attempt at any IT certificate though, so I`m not claiming to be an expert...Good luck with your studies

Sims can help alot, with out sims I wouldn't of had any experinece with Frame Relay or ISDN without a sim

Yeah sims are great for doing stuff with framerelay or with ISDN. I mean I have my routers but I can't setup ISDN connections without either ISDN or a ISDN simulator(which is way beyond my budget) Plus with sims like the one from routersim.com I can add many more routers and switches to a network instead of a only 3 or 4.

Actually, I got Sybex Sim that comes with the Sybex CCNA Study giude before a week. I'll use it with the book and the free Router eSIM for study.

I hope that these sims will help me get exp till I can get real router. I may try also to buy & use sims from r1r2.com & routersim.com .

Thanks guys for your opinions.
