I saw somewhere that you have to type out the complete command in the simulations in the exam, i.e. "interface ethernet0" as opposed to only "int e0", for example.

Is this true?

no you can use abbriviated commands in the sims, at least i did and they worked but hell if all else fails just type the first part of the command and type a "?" or just hit <tab> and it will show u the rest

I got a few sims but not all can use abbreviations actually hehehe i got only 2 sims one can use abbr. and the other can't..but like what MaulerJ says...it does not work on exams..

my advice(as if i am qualified to give one hehehe)..learn the hard way first...as in complete command (ie interface ethernet0)...get familiarised with the long commands...so that when xam comes u are already familiar with these command..and not panicked when u typed int e0 nuthing happens.

then when u passed..you can use all the abbre. you want..hell you can type iamsexgod if u want...but beware it might not worked.
cheers~

Abbreviated Cisco CLI commands will work on the CCNA exam simulation portion as recently as September of 2002 becasue that is when I took it.

I had the same question at the time and the forum was divided. They did work when I took the exam.

took the exam september 2002 also. don't know about the abbreviations, but the keyboard combinations don't work i.e instead of cntrl+z, you type exit to get a level back. why risk? just type the full commands.

There is no way to get faked out by the abbreviated CLI.

The router sim will not respond if the command is incorrect just a real router will not.

No matter what you type in, the router sim always responds with something. If you receive an error message or if the router sim does not respond then obviously you need to not use the abbreviated commands.

It is no big deal really. But just in case your sim does not respond to abbreviated commands you shold be able to enter in the full command.

since it is the performance-based part of the exam, i would think typing incorrect commands untill you get it right, would not only be time consuming, but also there is an inherent risk of being penalised by cisco.

do you think getting the command right the first try would be the same as the third try? or how about if the software keeps track of the # of tries?

it's all these factors and the element of time that can determine whether you walk out with a smile or not. anyway, it would be safe to know the full commands just in case.
