DOES ANYONE HAVE A QUICK SHORT CUT IN MEMORIZING THE TYPES OF CABLES AND WHAT THEY ARE USED FOR? STRAIGHT THRU.CROSS-OVER,CONSOLE. IS THE ROLLED CABLE THE SAME AS THE CROSS-OVER? THANKS FOR ANY SORT OF HELP

Straigth Through Cables r used for connecting dissimilar devices like Router to Switch.....Cut Through cables are used for connecting smiliar devices like Router to Router..& No Rollover cables r not same as CrossOver cables...RollOver Cables r used for connecting a Router to a PC console..Hope this helps

Well, if you're talking about LAN cables, then there are only 3 possible types:

1. Straight-through cable
Host<->Switch
Host<->Hub
Host<->Router
Hub<->Switch
Switch<->Router

2. Crossover cable
Host<->Host
Switch<->Switch
Hub<->Hub

3. Rollover cable
PC<->Router/switch console port

When you're talking about UTP cables, you're looking at 4 pairs of wires, numbered 1 to 8. The difference between straight-through, crossover and rollover cables is just have these 4 pairs are connected at both ends of the cable:

1. Straight-through: Just like the name implies, the wires are connected straight through - same on both ends, i.e.

1-1
2-2
3-3
4-4
5-5
6-6
7-7
8-8

2. Rollover: All the wires are rolled-over to
its corresponding "mirror-image", i.e.

1-8
2-7
3-6
4-5
5-4
6-3
7-2
8-1

3. Crossover: Two pairs are crossed-over, namely wires 1-3 and 2-6. All other wires are connected straight-through, i.e.

1-3
2-6
3-1
4-4
5-5
6-2
7-7
8-8

seeing all u experts in action , better i keep my mouth shut, and lol Crossover cables are diff from Rollover ones.
