Author Passed CCNA

I passed the CCNA with a 936. I just wanted to let all of you know that this exam was really easy to me. I think it was easy because of the time and effort I put forth. I studied every topic listed on the Cisco website and nothing else. I was lucky enough to have two 2500's to study with. I also had two semesters of Cisco Academy which taught me subnetting inside and out. If you don't know subnetting, don't bother taking the exam. Good luck to all.

Congrats on your pass! I'm starting semester 3 of the Cisco Academy next week. I'm going to do all 4 then go for the CCNA soon after.

I think if you took your Academy seriously, you will have no problem passing after completing all four semesters. The only reason I didn't do all four, is because my instructor was a dirtbag. Like I said before, if you can subnet, you should not have any problems. Practice your E-Simms also.

congrats on your pass.

a local college offers cisco academy in the evenings. you take semesters in batches of two. if i only wanted to do one batch should i take 1 & 2 or 3 & 4. all four semesters costs roughly four times the cost of the exam itself - do you get enough hands-on to warrant that? - i would hate to pay out that much cash just to sit and hear some guy read out of the textbook.

Well, My first semester was all theory and learning how to subnet. The second semester was all hands on with a subnet problem every day of class. We had a small class so two of us had five 2500 routers and one 1900 switch to ourselves. I think if you work in the industry and you are getting hands on like myself, then you can probably get by with just the first two semesters and some serious studying. You have to get thru the first two to be able to go to three and four. If you don't go to three and four, at least buy the book. It has alot of good info in it.

If you already know subnetting and basic router setup, then you can skip semesters 1 & 2. Semesters 3 & 4 deal with VLANs, ACL's, IGRP, and WAN technology. Semester 1 is basically all text book. They drill subnetting into you until you can do most of it in your head. Semesters 2-4 are more lab than lecture. I believe the CNA (Cisco Networking Academy) is well worth the money.

My $.02 worth.

I think passing semesters 1&2 is required to take 3&4. That's what my instructor told us anyway. If not, I agree with bassackwards.
