Cut-Through Switching

| Hello!
As I understand it, before forwarding an ethernet frame...
1. Cut-Through: Reads first 6 bytes only up to DMAC
2. Store & Forward: Reads complete frame
3. Fragment-Free: Reads first 64 bytes
My question is, using the Cut-Through method how can a switch build a CAM table if it is not reading the source MAC address (which follows the DMAC in the frame)? Thanks for your input!

| It will learn it when the message is been replied. We use two communication...
Since, it does not check for error, it is upto the destination PC's NIC to check for Error.
The idea of cut-through is to increase speed not don't care much about anything else, foward it, foward it, forward it is the only job that it needs to do well... | |

| To answer your ?. The switch will still read source MAC and place it in its CAM table. It just starts forwarding the frame as soon as it has read the DMAC. |
