To all CCNA hustlers out there,

I was going through the CCNA exam topics at the link below as I am going to take the CCNA exam on Aug 1st
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/10...ms/640-607.html

I came across this part where it says...
"Describe the two parts of network addressing; then identify the parts in specific protocol address examples", could anyone out there give me a little hint on what this is about. I was gussing it is about IPX or MAC address stuff but not so sure. Anyone out there have any idea?

They are specifically talking about layer three addressing. This is a logical address with a portion that represents grouping and a portion that represents the individual node.
TCP/IP Network or Subnet / Node address
IPX Network / Node
Appletalk Cable / Node
etc.
IPX uses the layer two address of a node to represent the node portion of the layer three address.
Hope this helps...

Jeff,

thanks for the reply it sure helps out as I was just confuse as whether it talks about just the layer address or the whole cake altogether. FRom your answer it seem like it is for everything on the layer 3 addressing. I have heard appletalk would not be strongly tested but IPX will be as a lot of the Netware servers were still around.

Jeff, are you still workign on your CCNA. it looks like it from your profile. your photo looks good too.

This is my first posting after almost a year after hanging out at the A+ forum and got certified eventually. I am back now I guess. Actually, any advice from Jeff or anyone as I will be taking the CCNA exam on Aug 1st. I think I am pretty well prepare just need to brush up on some stuff as I am still uncomfortable about multiple answers question. Any advice...

I'm testing tomorrow. I started studying for this on May 21st, the same day I finished my MCSE. Basically my prep started with Cisco Press 640-607 exam prep. I purchased Sybex Virtual Lab e-Trainer at Amazon.com for $29. I purchased Lemmle's practice exam, you can hook up at Cramsession.com. There are lots of sites with free trial questions and e-mail questions of the day. I took notes from the 607 book and turned them into MP3 files so I could listen to them while I ride the bus. I took all of my email questions and strung them together into long text files that I could quiz myself using my PDA. I worked with a router my boss loaned me and the simulator, digesting the book and checking out numerous docs from websites (Cisco, RFC's, etc.) Then I began with the practice quizzes. The CD with the Cisco Press book has a good pratice engine with several simulator questions of the format that you will have in the exam. I have passed 2 SkillDrill.com Exams. I have a lot of networking, admin, client support, bench experience. I have worked with a few routers and switches, but not nearly enough for the course objectives.

I am ready. I did it on the cheap and pretty quick, but pretty well drilled in. Just gonna stay with the routine tomorrow. I'm going to work from seven to 1, hop the bus to the test site and grab some lunch along the way. The test is at three. I like testing in the afternoon, because I have taken care of my responsibilities by then and can relax. I tested in the morning once and I just felt nervous and tired. that is my prep approach. I don't have too many specific tips for info, just live it. If you have questions though, this board is one of the best. Hope you are enjoying your studies.
