Thanks to the freak for linking me to his site explaining subnetting. The table is the only way it seems to get through to me. I do have a question though.

I have done all the examples my CCNA book has to offer, however I would like to do some more just to make sure that i am doing everything right.
Anyone know where I can get some questions regarding subnetting?

Thanks in advance
Neil

Bite the bullet and buy a practice test.

You can find completely free tests at the following sites:

www.congonetworking.com

www.certutor.net
www.certyourself.com
www.gocertify.com
www.mcmcse.com
www.win2000trainer.com

Search for "Cheapskate's Guide to Guilt-Free Practice Questions" on Google for more free practice tests.

Cheers,
Ron

Thanks for the links. I, however, am concerned with subnetting mostly. Do you know what the first valid subnet for a class A network with a subnet mask of 255.255.240.0 (10.x.x.x)? looks like it should be 10.0.16.0 but the Todd Lammle SYBEX book says 10.1.0.0 with 10.1.16.0 being the second subnetwork address. Is it just a gimme that blocks aren't used(bought) below 10.1.0.0?

Given:
Class A Network 10.0.0.0
Subnet Mask 255.255.240.0

With "no ip subnet-zero"...

10.0.16.0 is the first subnet

With "ip subnet-zero"...

10.0.0.0 is the first subnet

NOTE: 10.0.0.0 as a subnet is confusing, right? That's why Cisco recommends AGAINST using "ip subnet-zero".

So you're right. Todd made a mistake.

Cheers,
Ron
