rajesh_bhosale, Congratulations! You are the powerball winner! (Powerball is the big lottery in the USA). Im sure you worked very hard to obtain a perfect score like that. I wasnt sure if that was attainable with the CCNA exam. You proved that all things are possible! -----Terry

well well, u've outperformed others!

a suggestion.. as u've done gt8, share with us how u went about with the prep.. specially the lab part.. coz we keep reading suggestions abt purchasing routers and stuff in order to have our hands-on,or else to go in for the full test order prep material for a 'few $! but which is not feasible for everyone.

Hi All,

I havent got much technical experience but know general IT terminology as I work for an IT helpdesk and have a IT degree(non technical) and am keen to start studying towards CCNA.
I have spent last couple of weekends on the web trying to locate some good sites that really break the technical knowledge down for a beginner and no luck - i was very surprised !
I have joined a few forums so hopefully will get positive responses.
I also know that sharing knowledge is vital - its a good motivator and things can get cleared up quickly.
I have a 5 day(1st - 5th July) tutor led CCNA course next week.
I want to aim for passing the exam by the end of July.

Please send me as much info as you can regarding CCNA:
I would like to know how you think i should proceed from here?
I think I need to get a router sim - any ideas?
What exam prep are you using - questions paper?
How are you planning your own study?
Any one got a CCNA memory sheet?
Ant good study guides on net?
How do you study daily?

Chammi that is good you are seeking to further educate yourslef, but people on her don't like to here the words, cheat sheet or memory sheets. Most of us read a bokk or books for several months. The last thing we want to see is someone that says i studied for five days used cheet sheets and passed. If you have been doing this sorta thing for a while, which it does not sound like according to your ppost, I would not pressure myslef to pass this in a month or less. Go buy a cisco book and read it. Then go buy some simulator or router and another book. Understand the material and then go look for some practice tests so you will be familar with quesiton format. Cisco press is not a bad place to start. Go buy a cisco 1601 for 300 us dollars and hook it up. If you are jsut trying to pass the cert for the paper and the designation on your resume and you can memorize everything in a few days then so be it. If you are trying to do this for a carrer then you need to actually understand the concepts and apply them. I hope this answeres you questions.

Sexy Lexy

2002-06-30, 11:47 am

Score 1000 but at the end of the day everyone else who has passed 607 just gets a pass and nothing else.

I don't know of anyone else who has passed with 1000, the high 900's yes, but they have been in the industry for years and really do know routing so it comes as no surprise.

I agree with tknterry but for different reasons, maybe material other than books and hands on experience were used to pass the exam as if he did score full marks then you are extremely clued up on the questions, anyone who scores perfection knows the questions that are coming.

I have argued this before and have yet to be proved wrong as you can not know everything about every subject that an exam covers, it's impossible because we all would have that prised 1000 pass mark mouted or framed for each exam we've ever sat.

As the ever wise jeff_j_black pointed out, you would want to stand in the spot light a little if after months of hard work and study you managed to not get a single question wrong, who wouldn't?

The entire point of sitting an exam is to test your knowledge on different subject areas and as there is a pool of questions that are selected what are the chances of not getting one wrong?

Just appears to be a little dubious,

pcpalct

2002-06-30, 11:55 am

Never thought I would say it Lexy...but u got it all down packed. Yeah...it is kinda weird that someone is so capable 2 get a 1000. I personally don't believe anyone who says that. If they are so good...why the heck aren't they in some big company by now??!!??

Plus, a perfect score makes the exam less valid. Hope they don't raise the pass higher than 849!
Sexy Lexy

2002-06-30, 12:02 pm

pcpalct, thanks for the support.

jeff_j_black, you made a very valid point, what if they raised the pass rate to 1000 otherwise you fail?

There's food for though.

Speaking of food for thought, is it true that Microsoft have changed the MCSE requirements yet again? I have been revising for 216 for six weeks and it turns out now that I don't have to sit it, say it isn't so.

I've been happier if this is true.

jeff_j_black

2002-06-30, 12:10 pm

Go to the traincert site at MS, I looked it over and it appears that they have changed it such that one of the design exams can take the place of one of the cores. It would surprise and sadden me if they make such that candidates don't have to pass the 216 though, as this really seems to prove the validity of the cert, more so than 210 and 215. 217 comes close to the 216 in challenge however. By not taking 216, you'll miss a lot of basic server services information, kinda makes different paths more specialized, but I still thing people would miss a lot without 216.
Sexy Lexy

2002-06-30, 12:30 pm

216 is still an elective that can be taken for MCSA so it hasn't been a waste of six weeks, thankfully.

I agree totally as 216 tests candidates networking skill to the extreme and should rightfully be a core exam as it would just be a case of reading the material and sitting each exam in turn to remain certified.

There should be a challenge to ensure that a specific exam is the deciding factor to if you should hold the certification, 216 was that exam.

Hopefully the Cisco track won't keep raising the bar when I start that, when my MCSE is finally over.

jeff_j_black

2002-06-30, 12:41 pm

Cisco, you just have to sit every two years to keep!
Sexy Lexy

2002-06-30, 1:26 pm

Really?

I thought it was every three years?

mikeghet

2002-06-30, 3:34 pm

Sexy Lexy

You have to take the associate level and professional level certs every three years. the ccie is every two years. also cisco did just make it harder to pass the tests. It still tests on the same concepts but different way of testing.
Sexy Lexy

2002-06-30, 4:31 pm

I remember reading that it was every three years but wasn't quite sure at what level you have to take the two year re-sits.

Don't get me wrong I am in no way saying that the Cisco certification is easy to achieve of that the exam pass rates should be raised, I am expecting them to be a lot harder than the Microsoft exams.

My remarks were to the validity of achieving a perfect score, not that Cisco certification would be easy. I have heard that the scenario are harder and that VLAN questions have been updated.

mikeghet

2002-06-30, 4:53 pm

I know you were not saying it was easy or anything like that. I was just answering
"Really?

I thought it was every three years?"

darthfeces

2002-06-30, 5:06 pm

but , it extends as you get each higher cert

say you get ccna than ccnp 1 year later
your ccnp is 3 years from
thatdate and you only re-cert the highest cert earned that is expireing.
most people should have earned your ccnp by the
time ccna expires.
ccie re-cert is a written covering "new technology"

How did you find the CCNA exam anyway? I know you can't disclose anything but generally what was your impression.

Sexy Lexy

2002-06-30, 5:11 pm

Thanks Darth,

So if you update the CCNP you automatically get the CCNA for the update version?

I was intending to take the CCNA before the end of the year then on to CCNP, how long does it take to study and pass each certification?

mikop

2002-06-30, 5:43 pm

study time doesn't really matter...

there is too much variable that factors in... your prior experience, concentration, distraction etc etc, all about applying yourself...

study at your own pace, be honest with yourself and take the test whenever you feel that you are ready...

1 week/1 month/2+ months, it's all the same as long as you acquire the proper knowledge and can perform at the level being tested.

study never really stop since most ccnp have their eyes on something bigger... its always constant reinforcement of knowledge and acquiring new ones.

Dear Friends.... who replied to my post....... .....

first let me say thanks for ur reactions.I couldn't answer all of u as I was busy. Sorry for delay........friends..

In some reactions people praised me....in some reactions few people devoted their time on discussion whether anybody can get 1000 in CCNA. For me these all reactions was totally new experience which fuelled me to study for next level (CCNP) with new enthusiasm.

Many of u asked me rgd. my study method. So first let me introduce myself to u.
I have done my graduation in electronics & telcom from Bombay university in June 2001. In last year (Dec 2002) of my engg. I was selected in global telesystems ltd. (www.gtl.co.in) in campus interview as GET (Graduate Engineer trainee). I have been in Calcutta (one of global's node in india) since Sept. 2001 for my training as Helpdesk-Tech Support. In my training I came across following things such as frame relay,ISDN,Internet service, mailing services (X.400,SMTP,CCmail etc.),server/router colocation etc. Also I got chance to deal 7500/3600/2500 series routers (only user mode access), Frame relay switch of nortel (only user mode access),3500 series switch (only user mode access), different modems (RAD ASM, Ascom etc.), VSAT system. All these short term experience helped me a lot in my CCNA exam (boosted my confidence).
I referred CCNA book by Todd Lamle as well as Odom (cisco press)....also ICND & Remote Access upto certain extent. I completed the syllabus first & then started visiting sites like examnotes.net, certyourself.com,cert21.com,braincert.com,ciscoguide.net,andtek.com,examsonline.com etc for online exam practice & guidance. I didn't join any course for the same.I tried to emphasize on clearing the concepts properly because that's the key of success in CCNA exam. What I did at the time of exam & what I would like to advise u that...I kept my head cool....relaxed....patient...read each question carefully (beware of textual twists)....then answered by choosing the best answer first & then understanding why other options r wrong....that's it friends....nothing different....extraordinary.... .....
Dear Friends...come on...believe in urself..u can also do it....I haven't done any extraordinary thing....stlll I have to go miles....still I have been learning...it's just start for me. I am still unsatisfied........

It would be my pleasure to help u if I can.

Wishing u all best of luck for ur exams...career....future plans.......

wishing u best regds & thanks

Well Rajesh

It seems you laid a very good foundation before starting the entire Cisco stuff. With the description of your background, it looks like the CCNP won't be that difficult because all you will to do is go through the study guides and go back to your devices and make sure you've covered everything listed on the guides.

Any way, like someone stated, your are the powerball, as it's unheard of getting full score on these IT exams.

So Congrats on this achievement and Good Luck in your preparation for CCNP.
Sexy Lexy

2002-07-01, 5:15 pm

someone as self assured, confident, experienced and as well educated as you obviously are would want to make a point of emphasising the fact that you achieved 1000 on an exam when you would be more than happy with passing the exam and informing us of your success at gaining the CCNA status.

Apart from praise for others you wouldn't gain anything by making such a statement, just curious why someone with your intellect would seek adulation from others.

ISN'T A PASS A PASS AT THE END OF THE DAY REGARDLESS OF WHAT SCORE YOU END UP WITH? WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES GETTING 1000 REALLY MAKE AS LONG AS YOU PASSED THE EXAM.

YOU DON'T GET ANY EXTRA FOR IT, DON'T GET A GOLD CERTIFICATE AND YOU DON'T GET A LETTER FROM THE CEO CONGRATULATING YOU ON YOUR EFFORTS, YOU DON'T GET PAID ANY EXTRA MONEY EITHER.

THE EXAM IS TO PROVE IF YOU ARE COMPETENT WITH THE REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE TO SUPPORT, TROUBLESHOOT AND CONFIGURE THE PRODUCT.

CHASE RAINBOWS IF YOU WANT BUT THEIR ARE FAR MORE PRODUCTIVE WAYS TO SPEND YOUR TIME THAN A PERFECT SCORE ON AN EXAM.

POINT IT OUT TO A PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYER IN AN INTERVIEW AND SEE HOW IMPRESSED THEY ARE AND SEE IF IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE.

Dear Sexy Lexy....

thnks a lot for ur reactions. I haven't given CCNA for scoring 1000 but to start to

expand my knowlegde & skill in networking

field. By posting message on forum I didn't

intend to emphasize on scoring cent percent

in exams or expecting any gold

certificate,award,extra money. I posted

message as like any other member who posts

it after passing so that I can help other

CCNA aspirants if possible as well as can

get advice from seniors for my next

preparation. And I am sure that each member of this

forum definitely, must be trying to expand

his knowledge & skill instead of just

passing exam.I know pass is a pass AT THE

END OF THE DAY REGARDLESS OF WHAT SCORE YOU

END UP WITH.
Sexy, I totally agree with u for ur comment>>"THE EXAM

IS TO PROVE IF YOU ARE COMPETENT WITH THE

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE TO SUPPORT,

TROUBLESHOOT AND CONFIGURE THE PRODUCT."

That's what I have been doing for last seven

months in global telesystems ltd. (www.gtl.co.in)
I know it...but by the way thanks for

reminding...ur comment>>>"CHASE RAINBOWS IF YOU WANT BUT

THEIR ARE FAR MORE PRODUCTIVE WAYS TO SPEND

YOUR TIME THAN A PERFECT SCORE ON AN EXAM."

One more point regd ur comment>>>"POINT IT OUT TO A PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYER IN AN INTERVIEW AND SEE HOW IMPRESSED THEY ARE AND SEE IF IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE." I know what prospective employer wants as I have given interviews. I think our skill & knowledge should be supplemented by certain proof say certifications etc. For certifications we study properly...that increases our knowledge of that particular field & if we have clear knowledge of that particular field then only we will be handed over the responsibility of certain task related to that particular field & then our skill will be evaluated depending on our performance (provided we have clear knowledge & confidence). So no doubt any prospective employer will see our knowledge (with proof of saycertifications, degree etc.) as well as experience. We get our experience only after gaining knowledge & then applying it with skill in particular task.

What I think now Sexy....that let us spend our in more productive ways by ending this discussion now.
Wishing u best luck for ur future plans....Sexy...........

With warm regds
Rajesh Bhosale.

Mr Lexy what is your problem? It is not like the guy was bragging or something. He just wanted to share his accompishiment just like the other ten thousand people have that posted there scores here. He is unfairly being attatcked by u and a few others here. It is not like he is going around tooting his horn. He just passed, posted his score and told everyone about that is in the same circle. I betcha in the next two weeks you will see atleast one forum subscriber on her that says "passed" and goes on to tell about how he or she did it. God job on the 100% score man. It is very attainable. People get all pissy becasue they get jealous so don't worry about there b.s.
Sexy Lexy

2002-07-04, 3:04 am

First off, if you care to read the thread, I didn't join in the discussion until half way through. I have not attacked him or accused him of anything. I have though, questioned the validity of posting the message the way he did when he could of stated that he passed.

If you post with the subject title the way it was displayed then are you not bragging?

Secondly rajesh_bhosale and I have exchanged private messages and there is no animosity between the two of us. He see's my points of view and I see his.

I have never been jealous of what others have achieved or got pissy as you so eloquently put it, I can hold my own in IT with the best of them.

The point raised was a pass is a pass at the end of the day, nothing extra is gained if you pass by 1 or 100.

Next time read the thread instead of having a go at me.
