| Hello there this is my first post. Basically working towards my CCNA now for about 2 months off and on, finally wrote the test today and passed, Wow what a relief. I must admit the postings were really helpful, thanks to all those who posted and share details on their preparation for the exam as well as exam hints and advices.
I used Todd Lammles Sybex CCNA study guide, Troy Tech CCNA 604-507 study guide, and RouterSim 2. Read Sybex couple of times, spend about 15 to 20 hours on both Troy Tech and the RouterSim. These three materials will be enough for you to pass the test.
As far as the exam goes, 50 questions total, 75 minutes, 2 router sim questions. The simulations were pretty straight forward nothing to tricky. I spent about 10 minutes on both sim question. One question was to troubleshoot a router that suddenly cannot connect to the other office, ( 3 router network) Advice -- draw out the network topology on paper along with each interface and their IP address. Second sim was to configure several passwords, simple!. There was about 4 or 5 subnetting questions, so be prepared. My advice would be to memorize the Class B and C routing table along with #of bits, subnet mask, possible subnet, possible host, and range (found in Troy Tech's study guide) and when you enter the test room to write it down. I know this really helped me and also save me alot of time for other questions. Approx. 3 questions on hardware, so know your bridge, switch, and router and how it relates to broadcast and collison domains. 2 or 3 questions on IPX, 3 questions on access-list, Know your rip and their default values, difference between routed and routing protocols, when to use cross-over vs straight-thru cable, know you isdn and serial communications and how to configure them.
That's all for now, good luck to you all. | |
