| Does anyone know the order the router looks to boot from? One more what needs to be modified during password protection? | |

| The Router Boot Sequence:
-------------------------
1. router performs POST. Located inside ROM
2.bootstrap looks for and loads the IOS software. Bootstrap is located in ROM. By default the IOS is located in Falsh memory.
3. IOS looks for valid config file in NVRAM
4. If there, startup-config is loaded otherwise it will go in setup mode.
For the second of your questions, what password protection are you referring to? Recovering passwords or encrypting passwords? | |

| You can tell the router the boot order via the Boot System command. | |

Where would you find or issue this command? | |

| Simplified steps:
(1) test hardware, (2) load bootstrap, (3) locate and load operating system, (4) locate and load entire configuration file. | |

| I was talking about password recovery. I know the config-reg is involved. There is one other thing involved I just can't think of it. Thanks |
