Today's QOTD from cert21 is a bad question IMHO.

----------
You are asked by your supervisor as being the Cisco CCNA for your company, how Ethernet Collisions work. You are asked what part of Ethernet makes collision detection work and how does Ethernet tell receiving stations that a frame is coming?
Select one answer:
A) Preamble
B) Frame Type 802.4
C) Ethertype
D) Frame Collision Metrics
-----------------

OK, we all know to ignore that "You are the CCNA " crap, it's a waste of bandwidth. The meat of it seems to be "how Ethernet Collisions work." Then it reiterates "what part of Ethernet makes collision detection work" OK then it asks an entirely different question: "How does Ethernet tell receiving stations a frame is coming?" Which of those questions do they really want answered. Well, the answer to what makes CSMA/CD work is not there, so I guess they want the second question answered, but I had to spend brain time and effort figuring that out. How about asking the question this way:

"How does Ethernet tell receiving stations that a frame is coming?"

Moral: we can assume they will throw two or more questions into one to confuse and trick us. If the answer to the first question is not there, look for the answer to the second one. Don't expect them to tell you which question they really want answered.

I think my brain will be more useful when I don't have to employ such a large portion of it avoiding snares and can focus on the technical material at hand.

Anyway Thank you cert21 for doing this type of BAD question. It's exactly the kind of garbage we need to prepare for.

hehe, just be glad that from the look of your profile, you do not look to pursue any microsoft certs...

but just for kick, you may want to try DCN and see how they phrase their questions.
