By default, which parameter(s) will IGRP use to calculate the metric for each route?

a. Hop Count
b. Delay
c. Load
d. MTU
e. Reliability
f. TTL
g. Variance

IGRP uses Bandwidth & Delay by default to calculate metric

Very Good.

You could also configure the router to take Load and Reliability into account - but that's not the default setting.

The Sybex book is wrong on that point.

The IGRP metric is only affected by Bandwidth, Delay, Load, and Reliability.

From the Cisco website:

"Although they are not used as part of the metric, two addition pieces of information are passed with it: hop count and MTU."

MTU is the last parameter of igrp . hop count is used for rip not for igrp .

This is what I learned, but Bandwidth is not one of the choices. So technically the only right answer on that list is b?

Well spotted

Good example of not reading too much into questions.

it's strictly a tactical thing, but whenever a practice exam lets you choose > 1 choice, your natural tendency is to assume there's >1 right answer, otherwise they would have made it a radio button question. And there almost always is but nowhere is it decreed that it HAS TO BE!!!

Of course multiple multiple choice questions just decrease your odds of guessing it right: instead of a 1/n chance you now have odds 1/(2^n -1) we assume you have to set at least one bit in the answer, -- no zero subnet hehe.....

Just another trick. Thanks Ron! Don't be fooled.

Hehe.. purely accidental on my part!

Seriously, a few small tricks here and there are great for finding out if you really know the material.

Ron
