I am nearly ready for Net+ exams before 14th of March, I was wondering how hard CCNA exams is compared to Net+. Do u need programming skill for CCNA? How much CCNA syllabus does Net+ covers? Is in hand experience a must for CCNA exams? Do I go for CCNA or MCP 1st? Thanks

I just took the Net+ this morning and scored an 840/900. A decent score for the Net+ and I was feeling pretty good about it. But after lunch, I picked up Todd Lammle's CCNA Study Guide and took the 70 question Assessment test and I only got 30 questions correct. I have some experience with Cisco routers but most of my networking has been done with either small Microsoft Netbeui networks or TCP/IP networks using homemade Linux routers.

In looking over the assessment test, I scored well on questions that involved OSI, TCP/IP and other subjects that I had to learn for Net+. All the questions, I got wrong focused on Cisco OS commands and Novell's IPX/SPX protocol, which I have never used. In looking through the Lammle book and the CramSession CCNA Study Guide, I can see that I am going to have to memorize a lot of commands and do a lot of labs before I can even think about taking the CCNA exam. Fortunately, I learned a lot about networking from studying for Net+, but as Freak said, Net+ is an entry-level exam, the CCNA is big time.

Good Luck,

It has been a while but I don't remember the CCNA exam having any specific syntax on it. The CCNP routing exam had quite a bit. I don't think you need to memorize commands. Hopfully someone that has just taken CCNA can verify. Of course, it won't hurt to just do it.
