| Hi folks
Passed yesterday, 978!! Cant believe it, Well chuffed.
Some words of comfort for all those taking soon, it really aint too bad.
Obviously youve got to put the study in, read your books, do the questions, read the book again, do some more questions etc. If your getting 90+ percent on practise exams than you shouldnt have any trouble. I studied from Sybex Lammle and really hammered there questions, Boson to and did loads of freebies from internet.
If anybody has any questions re the exam than let me know..

| To Bosie,
What was it like? Were you nervous? How long did you study? Anything that caught you off guard? What format are the questions like, Boson, trandcender,Lammle???
How long did it take you to complete the test? Anything thing you might suggest to concentrate on?
Thanks for the info you can provide and congrats on the pass.

| Hi Rcj2
I should say first I can only comment on my exam, I may have been a bit lucky got a good bunch of questions! Anyway, I was pretty nervous to start but once I saw the first few questions I calmed and felt pretty confident. The questions on the majority were fairly straight foward, there were a few dodgy ones, one/two in particular I didnt even understand the questions?! On multi choice you are told the how many answers to choose(big help). A couple of drag on drop on OSI (bit dodgy to). A few straight foward sunbetting qs. I did find there were a few more than expected on Bridging/Switching, ISDN too, but not as much on IOS commands. I did also take my time, treble checked all answers (esp subnet calcs) and still had 20 mins to spare. Try the full Boson sw and hammer it to 90+ pc each time, in my view they were pretty similar.
Think thats it.. Be POSITIVE...
Good luck mate.
Bosie.
ps Thanks to all the congrats messages peeps.
and all the best to all future examinees..

| Thank you for the reply. It helps. I will be taking the test in about 2 weeks. Good luck in your next adventure also. | |

| Do you have any advice on what to focus on? I'm taking the test in two weeks. I think I have subnetting and the OSI model down, but Frame Relay and ISDN really confuse me. | |

| way to go man, best of luck on the others out there | |

Overall advice is to try to know as much as poss on all areas, just to be safe. However sure OSI is a key area, subnetting too. You really do NEED to know about Bridging/Switching, ie diff between Coll Doms and Broad Domms and what device breaks up each etc. I got a bit bogged down with Access lists in study but there was little on the exam(but know the list ranges). Frame Relay and ISDN are a bit messy, just keep going thru them. Finally do LOADS of practise exams.
Good luck.
Bosie..

| First of all CONGRATS!!!!
Thank you Bosie!!....your advises are very helpful.
I have a question, though. Did you use any kind of simulator? If you did, wich one?
I have a friend who works in CISCO and told me he could lend me some routers and swithes but I have to tell him wich ones I'd need
What series would you recommend me?or would it be enough with a simple simulator?
thank you | |

| Mcorpuz,
Know switching, frame, and ISDN. My exam a few weeks ago hit them all quite a bit. Know the BRI, PRI, DLCI, LMI. Especially on frame know what info the different show commands provide.

Thanks for the congrats and glad my advice was helpful to you.
I did start using at home a router sim from Sybex. Generally it was fairly ok, as long as you keep to their lab configs. I found once however I wanted to use my own configs I lost trust in it, ie route tables wrong, ping not working etc. Fortunatley where I work I had access to some test routers and switches, a 2500 router(11.2 ios) and a 2900 switch(Just for exp', I wouldnt recommend using a 2900 though as its CLI commands are a fair bit different to a 1900). Being on the real thing router though was big help.
Hope thats ok.
Best of luck.
