| I i ahve the cisco press ccna certification booklett but i have to admit that i am ADHD lol....i have medication but i very very ADHD and i cant sit down and read those whole thing....ive been studying for a long time for it basically with the program that came with the book and various pratice exam's online.....i see that cisco places a list on there site outlining the exam, but is that reallly what is on there because i dont trust cisco lol. judging by the curriculum of the CCNA (cisco 1-4) they dont really teach you what u absolutely need to know. So can anyone tell me if that is worth puttin a lot of time into studying? or if anyone has any other good study guides for it i would like ot score a very high score. thank you

Ouch... low blow
For the original poster: I created a study guide for the CCNA -- www.mcsefreakpress.com/routers.htm -- that may be easier for you to use since it is much shorter, and it is built on modules so that you can read only small sections at a time...
| davidbeecken 2002-12-20, 11:11 am |
| have you tried mixing the reading with hands on work about what you are reading, | |
|
| i think you should change your usernsme to mexican't | |
|
| LOL
A bit of a low blow, but still wicked funny
The only bad thing about that... is that I didn't think of it first!

| i dont mean that for the guy that said," try what you learn on hands-on activities". i actually put about 3 hours a week in the lab at Marshall University. But thanx for not bein a jackass like the rest | |
| Imran4sin 2002-12-22, 3:43 am |
| Yo dude.. tell you what!!
I didn't even study ANY book for my CCNA.
BUT here is what I did do...
I have done the semester 1-4 of the CCNA academy as part of my InfoSys degree at the University. That's 3 semesters ==1 and a half years of study. Obviously we didn't learn only the CCNA material, there was heaps of other stuff, projects , labs , assignments and all the blah blah that comes with a Uni study.
So from all this I didn't really need a boook. I did all my study from the online material content provided by the CCNA through the University.
I guess what I'm tryn to say is .. If you dotn mind sitting long hours.. and i mean long hours then the CCNA online material should be allright, other wise get a book.
Mind you , I did used books just for the references etc. But nothing in particular.
I haven't yet sat the exam(CCNA)-- just a lazy bugger thats all.
So do your studies.. coz ppl might tell ya CCNA is a joke blah blah blah but it's not so easy if you dont do any study.
Don't be put off by the content.. it might look a lot.. but after you grasp the concept it's really simple and yoiu will cover the material quickly.
Well that's my 2cents worth..!

You're way out of line... I guess you should add Tourette's Syndrome to ADHD -- but would that constitute an insult to people with Tourette's ?

| Mexican, this is for you
I am sorry to hear about your illness.
Take your time with your studies; you won't find it easy I know, but it will be worth it. Use as many resources as you can, and don't be afraid to get other people to help you; the more patient ones that is.
davidbeecken's and Imran4sin's first post were helpful, but as for the rest, forget about them.
Here's something interesting I found on the Internet:
+++
One thing we can all tell our children, it that some of the most gifted people, the ones had the greatest inventions, athletes, or were the great leaders, were also ADD/ADHD. Thomas Edison, Winston Churchill, Bruce Jenner, and Eleanor Roosevelt were ADHD, or had other learning disabilities. The most creative and gifted people in art, music and theater are ADHD, Robin Williams is one example. We need to get our children to understand that they are special, and to help them to not feel like they are rejects, or worthless because they behave different.
+++
As for the rest of you; you should be ashamed of yourselves. Here are some fact regarding ADHD and Tourettes:
+++
ADHD
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD) is a neurobiological disorder. Typically children with AD/HD have developmentally inappropriate behavior, including poor attention skills, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. These characteristics arise in early childhood, typically before age 7, are chronic, and last at least 6 months. Children with AD/HD may also experience problems in the areas of social skills and self esteem.
Tourettes Syndrome
Tourettes Syndrome is a neurobiological condition that causes tics. For the vast majority, it is “mild”, and there are no problems other than tics.
Tics
Tics are movements or sounds that are repeated again and again. These tics are involuntary, and therefore the person has no, or very limited, control over them. Some people are able to suppress them for a short time, but this usually results in even more tics when they are released. The person with TS describes these tics as compelling – they have to do them, if they try not to, they don’t “feel right”. The sensation prior to a sneeze has been likened to that of a tic – it has to be expressed. Examples of tics are: blinking; sniffing; eye rolling; nodding; facial twitches; throat clearing; head shaking; shoulder shrugging; mouth opening; and humming. Sometimes the tics can be particularly embarrassing, such as coprolalia (socially unacceptable words or phrases) and echolalia (repeating words over and over). Some tics may be quite bizarre, such as twirling around or touching the ground every few paces.
Tics often disappear during sleep, during times of concentration (working on a computer etc), or relaxing. They are often worse during times of stress, or for some, during times of relaxation when they feel they are able to tic without worrying about the reaction of others. Some people only tic when they are in the refuge of their own home, and others may not be aware of the tics. It is often not the tics which cause a problem, but the reaction or attitude of others
coprolalia
The uncontrolled, often obsessive use of obscene or scatological language that may accompany certain mental disorders, such as Tourette's syndrome
So Freak, you got it wrong with Tourettes. Compulsive swearing is 'coprolalia'. And if you think that is funny, then are the one who is sick.
So ChrisDfer, I am not sure if you meant your comment in jest or not. I know www.leapfrog.com is an educational web site for children babies to 10 years+, but I don't think they cater for CCNA studies.
Why have I taken issue this thread?
My wife had hydrocephalous as a child and it manifested its seriousness in her later life, and at the age of 23 she underwent major brain surgery. I nearly lost my wife to a brain illness. Our daughter is about to have her first baby, any day now. Following a scan, the baby has been diagnosed with a brain cyst and will need surgery soon after it's birth.
For those reasons, I will react strongly to anyone who thinks that a disability or illness, physical or mental, is a laughing matter.
If you get your kicks taking the p*ss out of someone else's misery then you are the sick ones.
Would you behave like that if that was your child?
If there is one thing that would force my decision to not bother with this forum anymore, then it would not be the crass braindumpers or the shameless spammers, but the attitude of so-called professionals towards people less fortunate than themselves.

You have to, it just what the CCNA is a hell of a lot of studying. I dont know to much of your illness but maybe if you did more hands on practical with routers, cables, and swiches and less book learning it could help you out.
Good luck. | |

| Ok I feel bad now. My comment wasn't really meant to be offensive I know if the situation was reversed I would have thought it to be funny. But I am odd like that. Both my brothers have ADHD and I suspect I have a mild case of it so I do have some sense of how you must feel. Sorry for my comments I made above and good luck. | |
|
| well I don't feel bad. My first post was meant to help, and it contained suggestions.
My second post came after the original poster decided to calls us names and swear.
I am dyslexic, I know about learning disabilities first hand. But I did not choose to use that as an excuse. To each their own with their own lives...

Thanks for the kind words HOOLIGAN. We will know more details later this week. Our daughter is scheduled for a Caeserian and then her baby goes off to specialist doctors at Addenbrookes in Cambridge. Meanwhile, we are delaying Christmas until New Year.

All I needed was Wendell Odom's book and a router to play around with. The exam really isn't that hard. And don't worry about failing, just do your best. All worrying will do is make it more likely to do what you wish to avoid.

| Aww c'mon, lifes a BIACH, and you got to learn to suck it up. Can't feel for you, maybe if you were my kid, and even sadder is we are both Mexicans. The relevance in that is that you used it as your "nickname" as sort of a pride thing, yet you cry about how hard a curve you have been thrown. I have lost my share of family, friends and homeies over the years but have to madface it and knuckle up. Sorry bud, it doesn't get easier, and it won't with that outlook. You may get a few bones thrown your way, but don't think someone owes it to you. Who is going to pay for your kid, your mom, or everyone else. You need to go get three jobs until your butt graduates, and don't even dare dropping out. If you are already out of school, $#%$#% I was once like you, and nobody threw me shi%, makes you earn and respect what you earn. You are too common, something they see us as. NO MATTER HOW SHITTY YOU HAVE IT SOMEONE ELSE HAS YOU BEAT!
Jose 27 years old 2 kids putting a wife through college school, working on IT certifications (part-time) going to college (full-time) for a second degree, full time employed (at least 60 hours a week) and a part time reservist, prior military, and my kids still call me daddy
Merry Christmas, and welcome to adulthood!!!
