What would be the best routers/switches to get to build a home lab with? I am looking around on auction sites, like eBay, and I am not really sure what to look for.

The following book has a suggested listing of routers, switches and hardware needed set up a home network lab.

Cisco part numbers are used for all items.

I would recommend CISCO equipment!

The CCNA is aimed specifically at the 2500 series router (as CCNA is the entry level exam) so ideally you should purchase one of these.

If you can afford two then purchase a pair of 2305 routers with two serial ports then you can link the two with DCE-DTE cables for even more experience.

I'm not sure about the switch but I have a 2924 XL-EN switch to practice with and I have no complaints.

Both the Sybex and Cisco press books for the 607 should be invaluable.

Hope this helps.
