The best study is to buy a cheap 2500 series router from ebay and buy either the Cisco press or the Sybex book for the 607 exam.

If you can not afford a router then a routersim is the next best thing.

I just earned my MCSE and am now moving on to the CCNA program. I have found the Cisco Networking Academy Program, combined with the Transcendersm, Router Sim and Test King to be the easiest way to go. You will pass if you take advantage of all the great training there is out there. Ignore Lexy and avoid the Sybex book like the plague . . it is for hackers only.

Ignore mitchflorida.

Todd Lammle who is the author of many sybex books is considered, by most to be an authority on Cisco.

The sybex book and the Cisco book are excellent for 607 as they explain certain area's of networking in different ways (For example, Lammle's explaination of VLAN's is much better than the Cisco description)

And I don't think that Tod Lammle had to use Test King to pass his Cisco exam's either.

Don't just take my word for it though; ask everyone else in the Cisco forums and you will see how wrong mitchflorida really is.

Lexy's right. There is no point in getting the certification through TestKing, etc and not learning anything in the process. You'll be found out two minutes flat during the job interview.

Agree with Lex

Have been through Cisco Academy (2 books- Cisco Press), have Sybex 507 guide by Lammle, and the Cisco 607 guide by Odom. Of all of these materials, Lammle explains things in a more straight forward manner than any of the others. Have also used practice exams from several sources and none compare to the book by Lammle.

Just My story and I'm sticking to it.

To be sure, practical experience is the best teacher, along with a sound classroom environment and appropriate books. . I am using the Cisco Academy Materials, which go into greater detail than the Sybex does.

But for someone who is in a hurry to get a quickie CCNA, the Test King is absolutely superb.

The explanations in Sybex are far from a hackers guide as pointed out earlier, it's a straight forward explanation to the subject that is useful to newcomers and those who perhaps need a better understanding of the subject.

The Cisco press goes into a deeper technical explanation (Why shouldn't it though as it's the official exam book!) That expands upon your understanding. Both books are invaluable for this exam.

What on earth is a "quickie CCNA" and why should you be in a hurry to get the CCNA????

And is test king not a brain dump that includes questions and answers??

This is the combo I used to pass, along with Keystone Learning CD's.

There are some "regulars" on these boards who are constantly putting down others who happen to like the Test King product. I guess it makes them feel superior . .perhaps they are overcompensating for something else?

Test King is merely a compendium of past and present test questions, along with the explanations of why the correct answers are correct and why the wrong ones are wrong.

I would never consider taking a certification test without first consulting the Test King ... that would be stupid!

Now on some tests in the MCSE track, you can take a cert test and be familiar with all the questions beforehand. So be it.

On the CCNA test, there are about 400 sample questions, so it would be ridiculous to try to memorize them. But they do hlep you when you take the test. When taken with a good text, labs, transcender and other materials, the Test King is priceless. Don't leave home without it.

Yes we are compensating for not cheating by learning the material.

Past and present test questions, so they don't include the answers to these questions so you know the answers before you sit the exam?

It would be stupid to have to rely on a brain dump product to pass an exam when you have no knowledge of the subject.

Sorry but the Cisco exams were passed by people before test king and other brain dumps became available; so how on earth did they manage?

The old fashion way by learning and not cheating.

Keep your brain dumps but don’t decry others because they refuse to cheat.
