| Another class B sub/n prob
thanks for the help on the last one good confidence booster!
well
for class B address 129.101.0.0 for example with mask 255.255.255.128
subnets=510
hosts= 126
i get that the first subnet and range will be
s/n 129.101.0.128
b/c 129.101.0.255
range 129.101.0.129-254
next one
s/n 129.101.1.0
b/c 129.101.1.127
range129.101.1.1-126
however what is the last subnet, is it
s/n 129.101.255.128
b/c 129.101.255.255
range129.101.255.129-254
or
s/n 129.101.254.128
b/c 129.101.254.255
r 129.101.254.129-254
if it is the second one is that only 508 subnets? when i thought we needed 510 or is my maths that bad!!!
thinking about it is
s/n 129.101.255.0
b/c 129.101.255.127
r 129.101.255.1-126
the last one as it is the one before the mask value (255.255.255.128)
apart from the formula and doing each subnet how can you check its 510 subnets??
my head hurts

| The last useable subnet will be 129.101.255.0. And with your first useable subnet being 129.101.0.128, that gives you 510. I did cheat however and use a subnet calc to check this, so I believe it's right. | |
