Novell Groupwise to add?

| Ok quick question....
Ive passed my CCNA recently, and also have A+ NET+ CNA and some IBM desktop stuff. Im currently using Groupwise 6 and wonder if it is worth the time to also become certified in Groupwise. You see so much about Exchange etc. Is it smart to go the Novell way at all???

| I'll tell you my personal opinion, which may not be worth a whole lot, but it seems nobody else has weighed in yet.
I would go for the Exchange cert. It's definitely the most popular at the moment, for one thing. Besides, if you can administer one, learning the other is not going to be that difficult. The underlying technology is still going to be POP and SMTP.
So the point is, why not go for the more popular one in the first place, but still include the experience with Groupwise on your resume?

| Yes, I accept. I am administering GW5.5. Recently, I went thru a book on Exch 2000. I was surprised how similar each system is at the internal level. True, if you administer one well, you have less difficulty in doing the same with the other EXCEPT for the initial 'starting trouble'.
But the idiot hiring manager will NOT listen to you if you say, "I have good experience and understanding in GW , so I can do Exch better". So, you have to satisfy the idiots, in the real world.
GO for the exch certification. And if you company will pay your exam fee, no harm trying for GW as well.

| Hey I appreciate the feedback guys. Well they are willing to pay for me to go all the way through to become a CNE in Groupwise 6. I guess I should go with the flow, but I see your point about exchange. Makes me feel better that they are similar in some aspects then. I just wish I knew for sure "who" (MS or Novell) was the way to go. | |

If they are paying, do not worry. Go for it. I am afraid there is no separate track in GW6 for CNE. (They stopped the CNE track for GW). |
