Are bridges faster than switches?

Not only haven't found written answer, I can't get my hands on a bridge to ask it.

Help would be appreciated.

I believe switches are faster. They give you full bandwidth from Port to Port (on the switch) where I believe that all traffice that passes thru the bridge shares its bandwidth..

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Switches are faster because they are hardware based; bridges are software based. By the same token, layer 3 switches (hardware) are faster than routers (software).
