| I've tried to get them to change this, but no luck.
Question ID:ccnaq56 is not correct. Here it is:
What technology is integrated into the Cisco IOS software (as defined in rfc 1027) to help hosts with no knowledge of routing determine the media addresses of hosts on other networks or subnets?
A) Default Switch-way
B) Proxy ARP
C) RARP
D) CDIR
Correct answer: B
There are no right answers, because none of the tecnologies will "help hosts . . . determine the media addresses of hosts on other networks". With Proxy ARP, the proxying router will send its own media address to an ARP request if it determines that the IP address of the ARP is on another network or subnet. The client does not get the remote host's media address. Furthermore, if it got it the client would not be able to use it, because, by definition, it is not on the same "media" as the remote host.

| Quite right,
As far as I know in this situation, there is no way for a host to learn the MAC of a machine on a different subnet.
This highlights the importance of having the subject knowledge and being able to prove and disprove statements that you see around the place, including testing simulation software that users pay a good sum of money for.
Quite often I argue with questions and their answers in testing sim software and , dare I say it, study guides. To blindly trust everything you read without proving the theory with practical experience is folly and the beginnings of a recipe for disaster.
Anyway, kudos to you. Let us hope that more people will research such things and enlighten the rest of us seeking knowledge.
