Can someone tell me "WHY" we use them differently? I know "HOW" and "WHEN"...

like, why need to use crossover for PC-to-PC? and straight-through for PC-to-hub & router-to-hub?

Because wires 1-2 are the host receive pair, and wires 3 and 6 are the host transmit pair. The pairs must be crossed between 2 hosts or 2 hubs/switches so that each end's transmit pair is connected to the other end's receive pair.

Use cross-over cablinh WHEN

Connecting uplinks between switches
Connecting hubs to switches
Connecting a hub to another hub
Connecting a router interface to another router interface
Connecting two PCs together without a hub or switch
