Is it possible to copy the running config of a router via the console port to a laptop in the absence of a TFTP server?

Probably a silly question but a answer would be highly appreciated

Yeah; use the "Transfer"->"Capture Text..." menu item in your HyperTerminal.

You keep moving around the world: England, Bolivia, Zaire. That must be exciting... [grin]

It's that champagne/jetset lifestyle the cisco professional enjoys

Is there any way of uploading it back to the router though?

AFAIK you can upload a system image and/or a config file over the console using Xmodem. You'll need to put the router in ROM monitor mode, and the config file on your PC must be named router_confg. Then you do a xmodem router_confg on your router (or xmodem -y router_confg if you want to use Ymodem instead of Xmodem, which shouldn't be necessary for a config file).

Easiest way to get the config ... sh run, cut and paste into notepad, save.

Easiest way to put the config on the router ... paste it at the (config)# prompt in your terminal session. Works great. :-)

Heck ya Dr..... cut and paste tis the only way!

Only thing that may mess up is your banner if you use one, but you'll realize that soon enough

Make a habit of changing your delimeters in the text file and this won't be such an issue. Still a pain though.

I really like the "Cut-Paste" the doctor suggested.
