With the hierarchical numbering of IP addresses, what determines the portion of the address that will identify the network number?

A. subnet mask
B. dots between octets
C. class of the first octet
D. assignments of DHCP
E. address resolution grouses

The answer is either A or C.

The subnet mask is used to determine the net address and host ID. Hope this helps
