Are you mad because you bought a PC and Windows 2000 wasn't free?
Linux is free, but you'd have to find a router on the supported hardware list....

oh,no, i'm mad because, cisco requires me to purchase a contract in order to get a login and password, so i can upgrade my Cisco IOS from version 12.1 to 12.2(2)hx, which i need to run, in order for my NEW router to act as a VPN Server.

From whom did you buy the router? The point of my previous post was that software is sold seperately from hardware. When you bought the router, whoever sold it to you should have sold it the appropriate software bundle for your purpose.
It shouldn't be terribly surprising that Cisco wants you to pay additional functionality.
If you bought this from a Cisco channel partner and they knew the intended use of this router, it should have come with the appropriate software for the task. I would take it up with them.

I just bought a couple of routers and a switch to use as a lab to get my certifications. Where do I buy the new software from? any links would be appreciated.

You have two choices to get this done. If you need to flash your router and switch, you can purchase it from cisco at

http://www.cisco.com/public/npm/direct_advantage.html

You do need an account but this way you don't have to go through a reseller.

or goto Ebay and buy one from someone that doesn't need it anymore. I wouldn't come on a public site though and ask people for software that has a copyright on it. If someone were to take you up on your offer and someone from Cisco is looking, that would be a pretty good catch for them.

You're right madchef, i did talk to them, they sent me the cisco IOS I needed. They aren't all that bad after all. But that website needs some working on, so hard to navigate. Now i have to configure this router to accept PPTP Connections with MPPE encryption, anyone know how?

I've got no clue. At this point, you know far more about configuring PPTP on a router than I ever expect to, since I didn't even know you could do that until last week.
When you do get stuff figured out, I'd really like to see sanitized copies of your config.
