| Congrats---on the Sybex "kit"--is that the one with the router sim included? or just the big book with the CD with docs/practice tests?
Thanks, E | |

| It's the one with the e-trainer-CCNA Virtual Lab and the CCNA study guide by Todd lammle. I put many hours into the practice labs on the e-trainer. Do them over and over again and read the book a few times. This is pretty much all you need to pass the test. | |

| It felt awesome! It felt like nothing in the world could bring me down. All that time spent studying...to me it was more important than all my other certs that i've taken so far.
I've already started studying for MCP in 2k server...I'm almost done with the sybex book..spent 3 solid days with my lab at home preparing...and I ordered a CCNP book.....so everything is looking pretty good!

Glad you hear you passed. Gee, I was burned out after studying for my test,,,it's been since the 3rd of this month,,and I just picked up a unix book,,,,,,,,
again,,congrats,,,,I felt the same way on my ride home after the test,,,,

| Hi Nelson,
congrats !!!!
I'm a newbie to CCNA and hv couple of questions if u could help me.
1) How do u know if the questions needs multiple answers?
2) Could we bring in a scientific calc or is it provided with the pc?
3) Is the pass mark still 54 out of 65?
4) Any site I could check the latest test format since cisco site doesn't give too much details?
Thanks a lot for yr help!!!

| 1. The questions that require multiple answers have a square next to it and the ones that require one answer have a circle next to it. I think it also tells you at the bottom if I remember right.
2. I didn't try to bring anything into the exam but I'm sure you are NOT able to bring anything. You cannot use a calculator on the pc. You do not even need one for this test.
3. The pass mark is 54 out of 65.
4. I'm not too sure of any sites. Just make sure you know your stuff. Read one or two books and maybe a exam cram before you take the test. Do the practice tests after each chapter and pay close attention to the ones you get wrong. Once you figure out what your weak areas are then zero in on them and make them your not so weak areas. Be careful of the online tests that you take. Some of them in my opinion do more to confuse you than to help you. I did like the boson. It helped me figure out additional areas that needed work. Study extra hard for one solid week before the test to make sure all areas are fresh in your mind. I took one 3 chapters of Todd Lammle's book each day and made sure I remembered everything. This is how you should study for all of your tests! Good luck!

| hi Nelson1, congrats on the job well done.
if I may ask you this: does your daily job relate directly to this Cisco-stuffs? or are you doing it for other reasons...
my present job is more related to consulting in applications, so I just wonder if I need/should take CCNA..
thanks alot.. | |

GOOD question,,,,answere,,yes it is. If you have the 507-version of Todd L's book and not the 407-version (doesn't have it anyways)
Appendix B over switching will help alot,,hint hint.
,,,,good luck,,,,silky,,,

| Bootdata-
My present job has nothing to do with computers at all. I'm working on changing that but right now the job market is not so hot. Maybe when I get a MCP this should help enough to get my foot in the door. Once in I know I will work my up to those routers! If you consult in application I don't think you would need to take the CCNA. Maybe just to show that you know networking in great detail. If you do take it I wouldn't go any higher on the Cisco route if you don't plan on working with there equipment.

| for someone whose work is not IT-related, I think you'r doing well enough already (in terms of the certs).
i'm determined to take CCNA so that I can prove that i know something about networking
goodluck on your career switch...
