I am taking ccna classes right now. I would like to pick up a router to practice on. The ones we use in class are 2500 series routers and are very expensive. Are there similiar ones at reasonable prices. Also, are there other brands which have a compatible IOS.

AFAIK the 2500s are the least expensive "serious" routers. I believe the lowest series of routers running IOS is 800, but I don't think they're much cheaper than the 2500s. If all you want is to play with the IOS CLI, I guess you can consider a router simulator.

Cheers!
