| If you have a cisco 2525 router after you hook up the cable from my laptop to the router how do you actually log into the router and I know you can hook up the cable to either con or aux ports. | |
|
| firstly, con is for console (i.e. terminal), Aux is for Auxilliary (i.e. modem).
Ensure your using a rollover cable - pin 1 should go to pin 8, 2 to 7 etc
Start up hyperterminal or any other terminal emulation progran and set up as follows (cut and paste from cisco site):-
The console port is an asynchronous serial port; any device connected to this port must be capable of asynchronous transmission.
Before connecting the console port, check the terminal documentation to determine the baud rate. The baud rate of the terminal must match the default baud rate (9600 baud) of the console port. Set up the terminal as follows:
9600 baud
8 data bits
No parity
1 stop bit
Then hit return and voila your in.
Secondly, the Cisco web site holds a mine of information, I simply did a search for "console port" and found the above. Give it a try sometime - it's quicker than waiting for a reply.
All the best.
