what does a "line card" mean on a catalyst 6500 switch. I had an enginner tell me that I might have a bad line card. Is that the same as saying you have a bad module in slot 7????????????

thanks for you replys...

Doing a check on Google.com, came up with this link:

www.runcompcisco.com.tw/products/sw...00/c6000_ds.htm

(copy and paste the link, as it is long)

Without being in full conversation with tech support, it hard to determine what your and the tech were seeing. There is a inteligent module that runs the line card. I haven't seen a cisco 6000 series switch, so I dont know if it would be feesable to move it to another port (seeing if the fault moves with it).

As long as you dont feel moving cards around will degrade your switch, it's a good troubleshooting tool.
