Hi, I am totally new to CCNA cert. program.
I would like to ask the following questions. Hope some one can help me, thanks

1. I heard some body say that the CCNA version has been changed, is that right? Or this CCNA version has been changed so long that I no need to bother? Which book is suitable for the exam?

2. What is the most effective way of studying if I have no practical chance (I have no real router )? Is just hard reading enough?

3. How many hours in average need to study? (yes, I know it depends on the knowledge of that person but I really want to know in AVERAGE how much time should I need to invest)

Thanks You

1) Yes the CCNA 1.0 (aka 640-407) exam retired back in 2000...& CCNA 2.0 is the currect exam (aka 640-507)...I have several CCNA books that I have read & still reading...go to www.bestbookbuys.com & look up these ISBN #'s...1576104400...1578701694...1576107817...0782127282
I would read as much info that you can get your hands on or perhaps checking into a Cisco Network Academy program at your local 2yr/4yr college...

2) Self studying is my preference, but to get your hands on some real routers, find out where the Cisco Networking Academy is in your area...I took an entire year of it (2 semesters, 4 Cisco semseters)...I have no real router either, but to pass the CCNA you really don't need one...just study the commands or perhaps buy the CCNA E-trainer (the ISBN is above)...If you do decide to pursue the CCNP & CCIE, buying a router will be necessary...

3) Hours studying??? I have put in tons...sometimes it all clicks, sometimes it doesn't...depending on how your brain processes all this CISCO stuff will really depend on how long you are going to need to study...I have been thru the Cisco Network Academy, bought about 5-6 books, & read them all...I still don't feel its enough info...I would suggest that you take your time & actually comprehend EVERYTHING, otherwise you will be wasting your $100...I took the CCNA 1.0 test once about a year ago, missed it by 26pts...I thought I was ready, but there were MANY multiple answer questions, which caught me off guard...now I am to take the CCNA 2.0 on May 30th...(I have been studying all weekend) I feel confident, but then again, will I remember everything???

Best of luck on your journey...

Questions like these are very individual, except the one about exam version. Version One ended July 31, 2000 to the best of my recollection.

Yes you can pass it without hands on, but it sure is easier with experience.

Amount of time studying? Keep going till you understand what you have read and then read it again!
