WORLD OF OPPORTUNITY STILL AWAITS LAID-OFF TECHIES
(Cox News Service)

So, high-tech workers, now that you've been laid off, where are you going
now? The answer's not Disney World, but maybe Bujumbura or Beijing. Or
more likely, right back to work.

Just this week, the number of job cuts at Internet-related firms hit a
dreary milestone of 100,000 employees since December 1999, according to
TheStandard.com's Layoff Tracker.

Many of the newly unemployed have been hit hard by their misfortunes.
Personal bankruptcies have reached a two-year high in northern California,
and the business of repossessing luxury cars is booming in Silicon Valley.

Yet it appears most in the tech sector remain optimistic when it comes to
their futures.

'Sure there's a feeling that playtime is over, but the majority still has
faith in the industry,' said Mark Oldman, co-founder of New York-based
Vault.com, which offers job boards and a resume database. 'Many are
seeking other jobs, and why shouldn't they? Their prospects are still
good.' read on at:
