| Congratulations on passing net+.
I am also studying for the ccna cert. I am using Sybex CCNA Cisco Certified Network Associate Study Guide 2nd Edition by Todd Lammle. When I was looking for the best ccna book for self-study, this was the one that was recommended the most.
I am also using routersim to get some router experience (simulated).
I think the ccna exam cost $100 USD.
Hope that helps.

| Sorry may sound like silly question but what are router sim and where do you get them? I think I could take guess at what they are but I'm a bit shy*gg* | |

| Router Sim is a product made by Sybex which simulates some routers, pcs, and a few switches. You can use this program and utilize most commands that a router would use. You can use this program if you do not have access to routers. There are other simulators on the market (some free and some you pay for) The free ones tend to have less commands available.

| Bill,
The CCNA exam (640-507) costs $100, and is available from any Thompson Learning / Prometric Testing Center. Todd Lammle is the all-knowing master of the CCNA. His book is a great study guide / reference tool. Cisco Press also has some good books. If you are a beginner, I would suggest the First and Second Year Companion Guides. If you already feel good with your knowledge of networking essentials, go with the Lammle book and maybe Exam Prep from Coriolis Publishing. Good luck in your search for knowledge.

| How is the network+ exam? | |

| I used the Sybex study guide and Exam Essentials 5.5. Exam Essentials was the best tool for me. It's 200+ questions and every single question except maybe 2 were from EE. I scored a 967 on the exam. You can get in at www.examessentials.com
Also the E-Lab trainer from Sybex is a very good tool for practicing the commands and you can actually configure a whole network. It costs 100 dollars and I studied for 2 months. Hope this helps...good luck!

to rawdawg,
given that you have your CCNA, DP, NP you should have MOST of the knowledge required for the N+. if you don't intend to do any server/workstation work, i'd say you don't need it. but, if you do, and you are also going to do CNE and/or MCSE, you may want to look into it. it should cover some server/client stuff along with OSI, protocols, wiring... etc. |
