| You need a space after xmodem:
Also, you can specify the source file directly after xmodem:
Líke so:
copy xmodem:c2900XL-c3h2s-mz-120.5.1-XW.bin flash:c2900XL-c3h2s-mz-120.5.1-XW.bin
The above commands in bold should all appear on one line...

I haven't tried to do this with IOS commands so my question may "stupid":
Why would you need to specify a filename for the source? Xmodem is just a stream from which you cannot select a file anyway.
Another thing: When I used ROMMON for transfering an image over the console cable I had the option of using ymodem which is faster. Would that be an option with IOS?

You're absolutly right. There is no need to specify the source file. Don't know what I was thinking. Sorry for confusing you rjohn.

For the 3500xl, you can only use xmodem (or xmodem1k). I would guess the same holds true for 2900xl. I think these are the only switches running IOS by default.
Just a quick question: I thought rommon mode on routers supported tftp? If so, why would you use x/ymodem?

Good question. Our 3640 was delivered with a fastethernet interface and an IOS that did not support that interface. Neither did the ROMMON. I could not tftp in a new IOS since I did not have an operational interface. Ymodem through the console cable isn't quick, but it works.

| Ah I suspected you were Scandinavian! Since your profile doesn't show your nationality, you have me at a disadvantage. I will, however, give it a try
God kveld Terje!

So much for cisco quality assurance, I guess

Good guess! For the uninitiated, "god afton" and "god kveld" is swedish and norwegian respectivly, meaning "good evening".

Since the 3600 series are modular routers the interface and the router was delivered in separate boxes. I prefer to blame the salesperson for selling incompatible components. But I got the IOS upgrade for free of course.

| Hi. Can someone throw up a specific URL (besides cisco.com) where one may learn more about the x,y, etc capabilities?
thx |
