| Hello everyone. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out. I have connected my 2501 Router to the serial port on a laptop with a console cable. When I start the router and begin a hyperterminal session the initialization procedure begins and continues to a point before stopping and hanging up. That's as far as it goes. The last line of code is 'Compiled Wed 13-Oct-99 21:20 by phanguye'. The router is running IOS 12. I have attached a file with a copy of the readout before it hangs up.
Thanks to all of you for all of your help.

| Who is phanguye? Are there any cables hooked up or even loopbacks? Sounds like the router is bad. Where did you get it? | |

| are you sure you are using the right settings in your hyperterminal?????? Was the router working before and if so what has changed??? | |
|
| I have doublechecked the Hyperterminal settings. The router was working before. All that has changed is the PC and console cable that I am using to connect to it. | |

Looks to me like your enter key character isn't getting to the router. You may be getting rx but not tx over your console cable.

| That sounds like a good explaination of what may be happening. I will try using a different console cable. Thank you. | |
|
| you also said you were using a different PC. after you check the cable (if it turns out not to be your problem) you might want to try a different PC to make sure that the laptop and its software are functioning properly. (remember the old floppy drive scenario on the A+ test) | |

| Thank you all for your very helpful suggestions. It works fine with a different PC. For some reason the laptop is not communicating with the router. The router does not accept tx from the laptop. Pressing <cr> has no effect.
However with a different PC, I have no problem. I am using the same console cable. |
