Is it possible to put a T3 connection into a 3600 router? Do I need a special card for this? If so is that card backward compatiable with T1?

thanks,

You can at least put a HSSI interface on the 3600 and use it with an external DSU.

I already own an external CSU/DSU, So I just need to buy the HSSI card. Is a HSSI card a mandatory piece for connecting a T3? Also will my DSU be able to handle the throughput of the T3?

A HSSI card is mandatory to connect to a T3. One thing to remember is that only the 3660 can actually handle the full bandwidth of a T3. I believe the 3640 comes close, but I don't have the exact throughputs in front of me. All 3600 can be fitted with a HSSI port, it's simply a matter of whether it can handle the throughput.

You can also get a DS-3 ATM module for the 3600 series. Once again, icabobo is right in that only a 3660 can push an entire DS-3, but all 3600s can push at least part of one.

The company asked about a second t1, so I suggested a fractional T3. We would only need to double or triple our bandwidth. Maybe 4 mbps so I was defintily not looking at a full t3. Although it would be sweet.Anyways thanks for the info fellas...
