Q: If you are required by your service provider to configure a SPID on your ISDN connection, how many numbers will you need to configure?

A: Two, one for each B-channel

I know that the D-channel is for control and signaling, why would you need to config two SPIDs. For redundancy?

Nope. Your BRI connection has two B-channels. There is one SPID for each of them. I believe SPIDs are used in NA only.

BTW: In my part of the world we do not need to specify SPID. The BRI connection still has two telephone numbers.

I have a little experience with this. In NA two SPIDs are reqrd, but I have installed CSU/DSU units that only allowed one SPID to be entered. I called Adtran regarding this and they said that the model I was installing only allowed one SDIP. Also, ISDN opperates at 128k, so it will take two 64k ch bound together to do this.

thx

ISDN can work at 64K....doesn't have to be 128K.
