| Hey guys and girls....
Could somebody here please point out the differences between these two. Lammle's book states: "They're both routing protocols, but they're not the same routing protocol."
I've missed something major here. MY WHEELS JUST FLEW ALL OVER THE PLACE!!! :0(

| rip for IPX is the defualt routing protocol for IPX, it is enabled by default when you configure the router for IPX and it uses 2 metrics to make a routing decision: ticks (which is a time measure -1/18 sec) and a hop count, to a max of 15. IPX RIP first checks the ticks for alternative paths, if 2 or more paths have the same tick value, then it compares the hop count.
IP RIP you have to enable for it to work and it is only based on hop count. | |

| Just to add one more item to 007's post, the default updates for IP RIP are 30 seconds, for IPX RIP 60 seconds, if memory serves.
