| Hello everyone.I picked up a cataylst 1700 for $80 buck on eBay.I know its old but hey for the price! nothing wrong with adding a little hands on cisco to my repetoire..
Anyway.Ive got the manual but I was wondering if anyone(with experience configuring switches) could point me in the right direction on working with this product and a good switching book.
Im not involved with cisco on my job however I do understand the basics of switching and want to delve a little deeper.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks, | |

| The Cisco TAC website is what you need. They have a huge database that you can search for info on your model, IOS ver and steps on how to config for what purpose.
www.cisco.com/public/support/tac/home.shtml
You can also try browsing the documentation section at www.cisco.com As for a book that tells you what and how on your particular switch, besides the manual you have, it doesn't exist. | |

| Conceptual/Understanding:
1. CCNA course books devote about 50 pgs to switching material. Cisco Press/Sybex. (CCNA)
2. BCMSN course books devote about 350 pgs to switching material. Cisco Press/Sybex. (CCNP)
3. Cisco Press "LAN Switching" devotes about 700 pgs to switching material. (CCIE)
