| Hi
I just got finished with MCSE 2000 and am looking into Cisco.
I know the "what are the best study material?" posts get on everyone's nerves so I will keep it short.
I can pick up some CCNA books at the Half-Priced book store for well... half price. And I have got my router.
Here is my question. The books I see are labeled CCNA 1.0. I see sometimes CCNA 1.0 and CCNA 2.0. Is there a difference? Is one retired?
Thanks in advance.

| The current version of the test is CCNA 2.0 exam # 640-507 | |
|
| A lot of the commands seem to have changed between the two exmas, 407 and 507. I wonder if it coincides with different releases of the IOS. THe 407 exam is indeed retired. I would recommend you get the correct books for this exam... | |

| With the different releases of the Cisco IOS, comes changes to the commands. Some are the same, some are new, and some are discontinued. This is why it is important to keep up to date with the current release of the Cisco IOS. | |

| Cisco changes with the times to meet the needs of industry and to insure exposure to their new product lines across the board.
In the 1.0 or 407 exam, switching wasn't a big deal and the command requirements were not as difficult as they are getting with the new releases of the IOS on routers and switches. These changes are reflected in teh 2.0 or the 507 exams which is much more in-depth on switching technology and router commands and infrastructure.
So get the book that matches the version of the test you want or I guarantee, you will have problems with the test!!
Hope that helps. | |
