| Hi guys, thank you so much for reading this thread now. I appreciate!
I need to set up 25 computers to share 3 DSL line and also they can also talk to each others since I dont think I can't afford a T1 line at this moment, can u guys plz teach me what should I do? (my first time setup network)
25 win98 pc plug into 1 router and what next?
u know they have lots of ports in the router, which 1 I should use for the DSL modem ?
now I have 3 dsl line, can 1 router plug in 3 dsl modem cable in it or I need 3 routers?
what is the best easier way for me now?
Also I want to set up 1 pc as a server running win2000server, where should I add the users ? A.D right ? and have that 25 pc login as the domain right ?
can any1 teach me step by step ?
thank you very much ! God Bless You

| are you sure you're not in over your head? even though i commend your desire to learn, you should get some books.
you need a switch. get a cisco catalyst 3548xl. then you need some type of router for your DSL (sorry, i don't know of one that will "bind" your 3 lines together). get something like a Linksys Cable/DSL Router (it will only take one DSL). Plug that into port 1 on the switch and the remaining 47 ports will be for your workstations and printers and servers.
install win2k server on that one PC and then install AD via DCpromo (or the wizard that keeps nagging you after the server install). you'll also need DNS running on that server and may want DHCP. setup all the users in your AD after you have built your tree. in the windows client on each win98 pc set the workgroup to the name of your Domain and set the domain that they're going to log on to.
wanna fly me out to LA? i'll do it for you... for a fee of course
but seriously, the hardest, most critical part is going to be in the design of you AD tree. the DSL connection stuff will be easy (except the aforementioned "binding" of the 3 lines).. until you start to add more features. and really, go get yourself some good books on the subjects @ hand. look into Mark Minasi's Windows 2000 Resource Kit from Sybex. and for the switch and router, well, the docs they come with and what's available on the net shall suffice.
good luck. | |

| I won't go into explicit details on this since it would take forever and a day but here are some hints that can get you on your way. You need to terminate the DSL's with some type of setup and I recommend that it has a 10BaseT hookup on the chasis. Changes are that you will be stuck with the model that the provider has parked on the other side of the copper anyhow.
First, you need to aggregate the bandwidth that you will get from the 3 lines, sound like load balancing to me, check out some routing protocols that allow you to load balance, that and some static routes, you are cooking.
Second, you need a router that can do this right. Recommend that you get a 3610 or a 2621 or some other new router that has one 10/100 FE port and a Shared module bay that you can jam a 4 port 10BaseT module into.
From there it does get complicated, you need to execute a NAT inside to outside, probably want a newer IOS 12.2.(3) with IDS and Firewall capability so you can gaurd your inside network from prying eyes.
Lastly, I would recommend a switch, at least one before the router to keep traffic clean so only outbound and broadcast traffic is bouncing off the routers ports. Out from there, you can use Hubs.
As for the server, DHCP, WINS, and whatever else you want on the 2K. If you have .com name or something, this get quite a bit more complex since you don't have a bank of IP's for a DMZ resolution. But that is another story.
As for the users, they only go in the AD if you setup your 2K server with AD, otherwise you still manage from the User Manager until you activate AD.
Teaching step by step, some of the topics are pretty advanced and would take quite a bit of time. Not enough time here.
