Author The Value of the CCNA

After several months of visiting this great site I feel obliged to state the value of the CCNA to those certified and studying. After passing my MSCE (5 years of experience using NT and windows in all it guises) I decided to pursue the CCNA but how ? Well I purchased the Sybex book for the 407 exam (Which is now out of date) and learnt most of the book, OSI layer, different modes, subnetting etc. which according to Cisco are the core elements of the exam after visiting the site and downloading the PDF's and learning those on topics I was unsure of. Everyone needs help and eveyone needs to start somewhere but most of the postings on this site ask basic questions that even the books or Cisco.com covers so people either cannot be bothered to buy the book like the rest of us, visit the site, learn the material they have or sponge of others who took the time. Don't let the CCNA deteriorate into the region of the paper MCSE. Granted that not all of us use the OSI layer in day to day subnetting and routing world but, the rest of the exam is needed to prove your worth in the profession which you have just qualified. Buy the books, visit the sites and read the dumps if you have to. Everything you need to know is out there, you owe it to the profession to be educated in the skills required AFTER the exam not just for it.

So far I've gotten the Lammle CCNA book and the CCNA For Dummies book, along with the regular Interconnecting Network Devices textook. I've also downloaded one sample exam and been to one site that has a few(very few) exam questions on it for free. I've taken the exam once already and missed passing by about 80 points, which I don't think is too bad for a pro trucker trying to change professions. What more can I get to pass this exam? Take note....I just got a job 2 weeks ago as an intern with an international telecommunications corp, but the job is up at the end of the week, so time isn't really on my side if I want to stay on with this corp in the IT dept.Talk about a suspensful dilemma!

Slade,

I've found that re-reading the books I already have helps me pick up on stuff I missed the first time thru. If that bores you, head to Cisco's website and read up on topics you missed on your exam. Read read read and if you are getting the hang of it, the info will just start getting clearer and clearer!

Good luck to ya,

Yankee
