| I am just getting ready to start reading Appendix B of the Lammle book and was wondering how much of this information is covered in the CCNA Exam? I was just wondering why he chose to put this information in the Appendix.
Thanks | |

| hello friend,
i also had the same question in mind, putting the chapter on 1900 switch into an appendix can give you the imprestion that its not that important and for refrence only.
but i think that its very important i have read it and its not to hard to understand and remember.
i have seen a few exam after thoughts where people have stated that its important to understand how to config vlans, well the onlt place where you learn to do that in the sybex book is the appendix.
well good luck in you venture.

| I agree. That *is* a curious choice, isn't it? Either way, my understanding is that it is important to go through it. Appendix, schmappendix, I guess we'll have to read the whole dang book

| Probably should have just kept quiet since I never took the 507 exam or read the book for it, but silence is against my nature
The management and configuration of VLANs is an important part of the BCMSN exam for the CCNP cert so I really doubt that the 507 exam does much more then cover an understanding of the concepts of VLANs.
For this conversation lets say your exam doesn't have a single question on VLANs. Do you think they may be an important part of any LAN work you do in the relatively near future? Or for those of you that will be seeking work after your certification, do you think the subject of VLANs may come up in a technical interview? I'm here to tell you it dang sure will and for that matter VLANsare such a basic integral part of LAN networking you better be able to answer the questions if you want to get the job!
I may not know what you should expect on that 507 exam, but I can tell you what you need to know for the real world.
