Author Spanning-Tree and Non-root bridges

2000-07-28, 1:40 am

Hi. I was wondering if someone could explain why the Spanning-Tree Protocol has the root port on the non-root bridges in a Forwarding state. It seems that this would cause the non-root bridge to pass frames to other ports on the switch.

Thanks in advance.

I'll try and clarify what I think you are asking...

The root port on a non-root bridge is in a forwarding state as it has the lowest cost to the root bridge.

Other ports which have higher costs are then placed in a blocking state.

Hope I am clearing that up a bit for you, I am no expert in STA/STP.

pro0digy25,

Thanks for the help. Why is the port in a forwarding state rather than a blocking state?

Thanks again.
