Author Can I continue taking more certifications?

2000-07-26, 8:25 pm

Hi:
I am a Senior Network Admin, MCSE, CCNA with 5 years experience with NT networking.

I need to get into Cisco career. Do you think I can continue studying for CCNP although I don't have experience with routers?

Thanks,
Marie

Sure you can, but it will mean more work and studying for you because the tests get harder. Even the switching exam for the CCNP requires some router knowledge because of the RSMs (Route Switch Modules) you can plug into some switches.

If you have the ability to understand the concepts, you can make it thru the tests. Many will disagree with me but here's why I say that.... On the ACRC exam OSPF was the heavily tested area along with DDR and Bridging. What if you had 10 years of router experience, but always used EIGRP, never used Dial on Demand or bridging? How would you pass that exam? The answer is by studying and understanding the concepts behind each of those topics.

So good luck to you in whatever you choose,

Yankee

Thanks for advice. I will go for the CCNP of course step-by-step.

Marie:

Given your position and credentials gained so far, do you think your employer would assist you in any way? Not that you need them to as I agree with Yankee. But my employer put me through the NW 5 CNE Update and a few other programs..

Just a thought. GO GIRL!

Rico:
My employer is paying for my training, books and exams but we have 2 CCNPs already. My employer needs me to look after the network not the routers.

I guess I have to study and one day things may change for the best.

Thanks for the advice.
Regards,
Marie
