Author Confused on Hyperterminal

Hey all.

I've read a few definitions of hyperterminal, but they all sound as though they are explaining telnet.

Can someone please tell me a good definition of hyperterminal and when/why you would use it instead of telnet?

Thanks in advance!

Hyperterminal is typically used to make a serial connection to the console port, though the full version has telnet capabilities. Can't make serial connections with telnet....

Hyperterminal is just a newer version of windows 3.11 terminal program. This application allows a PC to become a dumb terminal utilizing its serial port. Emulating VT100 connection you can communicate with other communication equipment. Example: modems, routers, switches, hubs, or telephone switching systems. There are other application that do the same thing like Procomm Plus which has more features. Another thing this type of application was used for was to connect to Bulletin Board System (BBS) which was before Http. Hope this helps
