Author I Can't Get Cisco Product Catalog!

2000-12-23, 3:39 am

Hey all. I'm trying to get a paper version of the Cisco product catalog. However, when I went to the link (on the Cisco site) to order, I'm confronted with a username and password window.

The order page says this:

CD-ROM and Hard Copy Book Subscription

The Cisco Product Catalog is published on CD-ROM and book media 3 times per year.

To order a copy of either the CD-ROM or a hard copy book, visit Subscription Services at

http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/subcat/kaojump.cgi

When I click on the link, that's when I get the username and password request. I looked, but could not find any information on how to obtain a username and password.

Can someone help? Thanks in advance!

Hi firechicken,

I seem to remember having to deal with something funny like this when I was preparing for my CCNA exam. Can't remember exactly, but in the end I think I rang up Cisco pre-sales to get a password.

I got my Cisco username and password with a rather specific set of instructions we were given at work. Cisco's corporate partners get rights to restricted areas of the site depending on their level (silver, gold, platinum, etc.). The company I work for is a Cisco gold partner. My login gives me access to IOS software downloads, an online product catalog, and I guess some other things that aren't visible to regular site users, since my company leases out a considerable amount of Cisco hardware to its customers, and we need to be able to get bug fixes etc, download IOS software when technicians replace hardware at our clients' sites, our engineers and sales staff need product literature, etc. etc.

I don't know how many different kinds of login access there are, or what rights each kind has.

I guess from a practical perspective, if you're job hunting, it might be worth knowing that Cisco partner companies do have some nice perks.

firechicken,

Did you know that you can sign up to join the Cisco Consultant program for free? You basically become an authorized reseller and qualify for wholesale prices on Cisco equipment. They even send you free marketing and training material to get you started. It's pretty cool.

I joined their consultant program about two years ago, and every few months I get a huge package full of CDROMs, printed literature, product catalogs, and whitepapers on emerging internetworking technologies, as well as all kinds of neat perks, like free books, compliments of Cisco Systems.

It doesn't cost a dime, and they give you so much. That's probably why they don't advertise it, and why they only take *serious* applicants. (I repeat... don't waste your time or theirs... they only accept serious candidates that they feel comfortable about having as authorized representatives of Cisco Systems.)

Just a tidbit I thought you'd be interested in.

Why not try to get one from someone besides Cisco?
If your company buys cisco gear, try asking the channel partner you deal with. Unless you're a fortune 100 company, you probably don't deal much with Cisco directly. Instead you go through one of the channel partners. They'll usually be happy to give you one of their copies of Cisco's product catalog.

Hi guys. Thanks for the input. I should have made myself clearer in my first post.

I am currently a student, and would like to get the catalog to keep up on new products and look at some of the different technologies.

I think I'll try and give them a jingle on the phone (like Deets suggested). Thanks again!

Hey firechicken!

I just found something that might be of interest to you:
http://www.ht.com.au/scripts/xworks.exe?M

Click on hardware>networking devices, then scroll down and you'll get a large range of Cisco routers to choose from. Prices are in Aussie dollars, unfortunately, but you get some specs on the gear, etc.

Cheers,

Deets
