| Yipee. Another pass with 892.
The exam was harder than I expected. I had studied hard for a couple months but still was in a daze with some of the questions asked.
When I clicked finish, I didn't know if I would pass or not. When I did my MCSE I was confident throughout each every exam. I got all 900's for the MCSE and was hoping for another 900 +.
Oh well can't complain, I mean halfway throught the test, I was even thinking about when I could resit the exam in the new year.
My advice to everyone about to do the test is simple. Read Todd's book from Sybex Press, make sure its the 507 exam (read it at least twice). Get your hands on Routersim 2.0. It's not essential for passing, but hey, if your looking at a career in the networking field you need as much hands on as possible.
The sim isn't as good as real routers, but I think its overkill for CCNA to pay for a real router just to get CCNA. If your looking towards CCNP/IE then maybe you can justify the expense. If you have a bunch of routers at work then this is even better.
The test exams like Exam Essentials and Boson are worthwhile but don't expect the exam questions to be that easy.
I found the exam had say 25% easy questions, and the remaining 75 % that you had to really think about. Of the 75% at least half of them made me go in a spin. The depth of knowledge was far greater than the practice tests. I was scoring 95%-100% in the practice tests and understood all of the concepts but this wasn't enough to ace the exam.
Just quickly all MCSE must realise the difference in subnetting calculations between Microsoft and Cisco. I had a direct question that had the Microsoft answer and Cisco answer.
Another question asked about which advantage does such and such achieve. Out of the 5 possibles, at least 4 were advantages. It did say the "Best" answer is required.
Remember the fact that a correct answer isn't always the "Best".
Hope this helps.
PS I was a little disappointed that no one gave me any last minutes tips or tell me to relax or whatever. I was really nervous and needed some reassurance. Oh well I guess it may have to do with that Disney channel humour.

| Thanks Guys for the support. It certainly will be a good christmas
I'll just remind all those who are currently studying toward CCNA that there is NO subsitute for hard work. This means reading the book cover to cover and understanding concepts in depth.
Transcenders and "dumps" won't help you much in this exam. Infact the "dumps" on the web for CCNA are of no use. I saw a couple as I was studing and these were misleading and had wrong answers.
NO SHORTCUTS. Set aside the time to study, practice etc and then book the exam. It took me 2 months from start to finish. First month read the book at your own pace, understanding as you go.
Reread the book again to refresh. Second month I put my head down and every spare second - study study and study. Practice on routersim or online routers. Use practice exams in last week to find weak spots. Don't bother going for the exam if your not getting 90%. Don't try to remember certain questions cause you won't see them in the exam. The concepts and logic is what you need.
Good Luck.
PS a little bit of humour in this forum is needed. I mean study can get to you every now and again !!
