Author vc of frame relay

Is the Virtual Circuit between DTE and DCE or between 2 DTEs? because DLCI is defined between DTE and DCE, and is defined a VC. So I think I am confused, and want to get help, thanks.

The pvc or svc is between a DTE and DTE. The virtual circuit (pvc/svc) is identified by DLCI's. These DLCI's are mapped to IP addresseses to enable communication. I believe that the DTE devices travel through DCE's along the way. Maybe someone can further clarify this aspect. Hope this helps

After I checked, DLCI has local significance, so 2 DTEs devices connected by a VC, may use a diff DLCI value to refer to the same connection. But how about global sigificance, is that two DTEs use the same DLCI number, anyone has idea about this, thanks.

As I understand it, because the DCLI has local significance it is only valid between the router and the frame-relay switch so that is why the 'frame relay map' indicates only the local routers DLCI number. If the other side has the same DLCI number it does not matter because it stays in it's own 'frame relay map' table. What counts is that the DLCI maps to another ip address.

Hope this Helps!
