DDP, SQL, NFS, Netbios Names...Help, Please!
|
|
|
| Hi everyone!
DDP, SQL, NFS, Netbios Names - if someone could give me a basic exaplanation of any (or all) of these, I would appreciate it! Thanks in advance!
|
| DDP is a connectionless protocol for AppleTalk. (Don't bother!)
SQL, NFS and NetBios all reside at the session layer.
NetBios is a MS enhanced version of NetBeui.
NFS (Network file system) is used to allow files to be stored on different file systems in different platforms.
SQL is a language used for databases which works on local or remote systems. (Like many e-commerce sites use for customer info.)
Hope this helps!

I think that Netbios uses names and not addresses! So really Netbios is at the session Layer.
|
| Now I'm not saying that I 'KNOW' Netbios works at the Network layer I just thought it was. Since I'm still learning I would tend to believe Rore's answer. After all the posts I've read I do believe he KNOWS his stuff.
BUT now 'names'... oh my! I thought everything had to either IP or MAC addressing. Someone PLEASE, lets hear more.
|
| sorry RonSCaInfo
I honestly did not mean to step on any toes or offend anyone so lets say that my answer was way up there amongst the stars somewhere where it has no meaning (it was actually a quote from one of my collegues). My answer was short and unclear. So my appologies. I am just like you, trying to learn something here too.
Lets try to progress not regress!!

| Hey CY, No need to say Sorry. I took your post as nothing more than just more info on the topic, ...Really.
But I still would like to see more!
|
| you won't need to much on any of those topics they won't be covered that much and in the work setting there rarley used. You will want to know what Netbios is and what layer it works. In fact no the layers like you know your name for the test. For the names do some studing on DNS and internet connection. I hope that gives you a clue where to look.
